ECUADORIAN WITHDRAWS FROM OPTION AT CHAUCHA, ECUADOR

FURTHER DRILLING AT GABY PLANNED IN FEBRUARY

On February 7, 1997, Ecuadorian Minerals Corporation ("EMC") notified Ag Armeno Mines and Minerals Inc. and Ecuadorean Copperfields Inc. that EMC had elected to withdraw from the option agreement on the Chaucha property, located in southern Ecuador. Based on the results of an extensive gold/copper exploration program over the past year and a half, combined with the Company’s primary focus on the Gaby gold project in Ecuador and expanding exploration programs both in Ecuador and Peru, EMC has determined that the Chaucha property does not warrant further exploration expenditures at this time by the Company.

On the Company’s Gaby gold porphyry, where a prefeasibility study is scheduled to be completed in March 1997, a drill program comprising 4-6 core holes totaling 1000-1400 meters is planned to commence this month. This program will achieve two objectives: firstly, to further test the high-grade Tama shear zone, located 400 meters east of the main Gaby deposit, where 3 core holes reported gold values up to 24.0 g/t over 2 meter intercepts along a 600 meter strike length (with mineralization still open at depth and to the north and south along strike); secondly, the drill program will evaluate a potential western extension of the main Gaby deposit where access was previously not possible and where the nearest core hole reported 174 meters at 0.74 g/t gold within altered intrusives.
