Issue # 17
Mahalummah looked at his inventory list and scowled as he thought about his
Weapons of Gold being hijacked by Pirates. At least he had assurances from the Fleet
Admiral of Crimson Vengeance [Cutberth of Legions of Doom] that a "special boat" was
being outfitted to pursue the thieves! The only catch was that only 13 Warriors could
occupy "The Vengeance Vessel" & Mahalummah would have to select 12 Volunteers from
Dozens of Candidates! Who they would be & how soon they would sign up was yet to be
seen.

DUELMASTER SALUTE:
All hail the new Duelmaster! Congratulations to the mighty BARREL CACTUS, our
wonderful island's newest #1. May your reign be long and easy on the muscle rub.
Inferno must be proud, I know I would be.
As everyone knows, I am now 2-0 on my predictions for the Duelmaster's spot. My
tips are so good that you can lay money on 'em. (Please feel free to do so.) So a
few good managers have been pestering me, "Oh great and wise Jack Black, master of
prognostication...will Barrel Cactus still be the Duelmaster on turn 350?" I'm gonna
tell all of you the same thing I told them. Yes. As you read this, Barrel Cactus
will still be your Duelmaster.
WELCOME WAGON:
There are some sorry excuses for managers out there in Alastari, but not the
managers of these teams; The Inepts, Fridays and Go Postal. Nosiree, those are some
mighty smart managers there, folks. Welcome to the isle. A welcome back to team
Halcyon Daze and their manager, Noachian. Where ya been? You go to that new "Manager
School" over in Arvat or something?
TOP TEN:
Have you seen the new fighters of LUROCIANS II strutting around the town this
week? They have good reason to, as they are once again beating the living tar outta
you guys. LUROCIANS II are the top dogs once again. Good job, people. (I've even
heard rumors that The Greek Guy went out and bought a new suit. 'Bout time, that old
one was starting to get a little rank.)
VOLUNTEER FLOWERS managed to sprout into the #2 spot this week. (What's wrong
with #3?)
TRAINING WHEELS pedaled their way into the #3 spot, up from #4.
THE STORM BRINGERS blew their way from the #5 spot into the #4 spot. Feel that
breeze? Hmmm....
BANDE DE SANG jumped, flipped and leaped up 11 spots in the rankings to latch
onto the #5 spot on the isle. I have a question though...where is all this blood
coming from?
SWEETNESS ate a lemon pie this week and they dropped from #2 to #6.
VEGGIES drop one slot to #7. Hurry, get back in the crisper!
THE FOMITES' 8-7-2 puts them in the #8 spot. I thought you virus types thrived
in the basement. Ya know...cool, dark, damp. (shrug) I'm just asking.
LORDS OF KARMA fly up the rankings 13 spots to lock onto the #9 spot this week.
I've been wondering all along, if you can control Karma, why can't ya win a fight once
in a while?
MERC TEAM FIVE rounds out the top ten, dropping 3 spots to finish at #10.
Killing off your top fighters is NOT a way to make the Top Ten list, Apollo
Maximillious. Just a friendly tip from the Jackster.
WHERE'D THEY GO??!
SNOTZI'S II went inactive this turn, and paid the price, dropping 15 places to
#23. Hey, Sultan, ya got something running down your lip there. Ewww, gross! Wipe
that off!
CRIMSON DEATH dropped from #9 to #12. Looking for a new strategy, perhaps?
BAD BREAD fell 4 spots to #14. Maybe it was because the typist called you 'Bad
Brood' last week??
WARRIOR REVIEW:
NEOPHYTE (5005) 8-3-0, 92 pts. Very impressive.
HOT TOMATO (4903) 12-4-0, 89 pts. Now do something amazing.
SHANARIAN D'ANGELICA (5096) 7-2-1, 73 pts. Still scary after that loss.
ALEXI (5115) 8-2-0, 65 pts. Very nice record. Now get some pts.
SEVARIAN (5243) 3-1-0, 49 pts. Gonna be somebody one day.
UNDEFEATEDS:
IZMAR ODEMIS (4842) 4-0-0, 51. Well done. Going for 10-0?
CRIMSON REAVER (5208) 3-0-0, 39. Reave that Crimson.
CRIMSON HAMMER (5239) 3-0-0, 23. Hammer that Reaved Crimson.
NAVARRE (5222) 2-0-0, 33. Great job, keep it up!
GHOST OF TOAST (5268) 2-0-0, 17. You remember Toast, don't ya? You know, the
bread with the tan....
JASPER (5231) 2-0-0, 13. Jasper, the Ghost of Toast is calling.
MORGUE REPORT:
Holy cat's-cradle, Spoon Man! A full 20 Dark Arena fights this turn. 2 DA
warriors killed by gladiators. Milo--DEAD, Legion--DEAD. What's the isle coming to?
Sometimes managers must make some pretty tough calls. I hope it was the right one,
guys. No kills this turn, though. Hmmm...what's going on around here?
BLOODFEUD BULLETIN:
CLAN PHOENIX did not try to revenge despite FIONA MANDA shouting, "I await your
bloodfeud anxiously!" I wonder what's gonna happen now?
DAVE'S WORLD did not even attempt to avenge themselves vs. CHEESE GUN. A bunch
of cowards, I say. Chumps.
FURY STORM has not yet tried to get revenge on AMBER NIGHTSONG. What gives,
Circle Man? Scared of her? Geeze.
JUSTICE SEEKERS have tried to avenge their fallen, but RANDOM ARASHI has smashed
both JOE and CRUD. At least you tried. (shrug)
SWORDS OF MARS haven't even attempted a bloodfeud on MAGNUS. Buncha lily-
livered, spineless chickens.
THUNDERBIRDS have not tried to bloodfeud GOOSEBERRY yet. What is wrong with you
people??!!
THE WHITE THUNDER has tried, but failed (thus far) to avenge their dead. MOB
MASTER was crushed by FALLING ROCKS. Try that maul I sent ya, thickhead. Rocks don't
like mauls.
And Now it's time for everyone's favorite part of the turnsheet: Jack's
Ramblings.
Now I'm not the smartest of guys, I think you all agree to that, but I do not
understand the lack of bloodfeuding in this arena. Several managers have talked about
it, and many agree with me, so what gives? Another thing that made me think this
turn, was the deaths of Legion and Milo. I was wondering what their managers were
thinking. Well, I guess that they sucked. Gutsy call by their managers, or foolish
call? I know one thing, there are a great deal of warriors out there that need to be
sent to the ol' DA. I mean, 5-12? 1-6? 6-15? The list goes on and on. Why put
your poor warriors through it? It's painfully obvious that they aren't gonna win.
(shrug) I don't know. Tourney time is coming up and I expect to see you all there.
Let's show these other arenas why we are the "Fiercest and Best" yadda, yadda, yadda.
Well, I guess that's about it. Until next time, keep your wits sharp and your
blades about you. Now get outta my face, I got work to do.

be presented....
A Hunting We Will Go....
(Part 10)
"We'll...never...follow you!" Emmanuelle said as Lord Phoenix lowered his hand
and the force holding Emmanuelle and James slackened. It was now easier for them to
hear and speak.
"Don't hurt them," Erick stressed.
"Your concern is noted..." Lord Phoenix said, "...and ignored!" The two dropped
to their knees, unable to fight the power that kept them down.
"How did you know?" James said. "How did you know we were on the island?"
"C'mon!?!" said Polythemus. "What did you expect to happen when you rob the
arena!"
James lifted an eyebrow and said, "We didn't steal from the arena! We only
arrived on the island five hours before you attacked us!"
"That's only one hour before we found you..." said Erick. "Well, if you didn't
break into the arena offices...who did?"
"I did!" said Groco, lifting his chin. "Phoenix said to. That's why I didn't
fight the first night we were here." Erick was shocked by what he was hearing.
"C'mon, Erick, you know I can hold my liquor! No way a little beer is gonna make me
too drunk to fight! I was out disguising myself as a Prowler."
"But why!?!" Erick said.
"Because it made it appear as though the Prowlers were already on the island,"
said Lord Phoenix. "I couldn't send you into the forest for them when they weren't
here yet. Everyone would suspect that I knew they were coming. Of course I did...but
that's no reason to let anyone know I could sense their presence!"
"You could 'sense' us?!?" James said, confused by everything that was being said.
"I cast a spell on myself that allowed me to sense the 'fighting spirit' of
others over one hundred years ago. You and your sister have remarkably strong
spirits. I could use you on my team."
"Why did you lie to me!" Erick said. "Why go through all the acts? The time you
went to the offices, how Dragon said he found the coin on the edge of the forest. Why
go through all the trouble? You callous bastard! Why not trust us???"
"I have my reasons..." Lord Phoenix said in his ever-calm voice. "But if it
makes you feel better, you can know that I also lied to Groco."
"When?" the orc said, rising to his feet.
"When I told you I would pay you extra for robbing the arena." Clan Phoenix's
manager raised his open palm to Groco and the orc flew back several feet, slammed
against the wall, and fell to the floor, pinned like the Prowlers. He did the same to
Erick, Polythemus and Kassandra. "If it's any consolation, Erick," he said as he sat
back down, "I wish it didn't have to be this way."
"You're lying," said Erick, barely able to speck, let alone yell.
"You're right," said Lord Phoenix as he opened his book. "Quite frankly, I
couldn't care either way. To me you're as expendable as that pathetic half elf D.C.,
but I'll keep you safe so long as you serve my purposes."
"Dunkin? What will you do to him?" Erick said with little hope.
"A basher whose favorite learn is parry? Ahringol may keep him," Lord Phoenix
said as he scanned the pages for a spell he figured he could use when he found it a
few years ago. "Can you believe that he trusted me? He knew perfectly well that he
was not on my list of 'chosen'. He should have known better. Why, I have been lying
to him from the beginning. To think that I would tell someone that was not on my list
the truth of my past." (Check back issues of Noblish Island Arena Newsletter to find
out what he's talking about.)
"But he showed promise, didn't he?" Erick said. "He thought of that plan to
excuse our living. Not even you thought of that!"
"Of course not," Lord Phoenix corrected him. "I would never have thought of such
a plan. It had far too many loose ends. Anyone could have proven it false. I only
allowed it because it allowed him to be accepted by you and the others. It was plain
to see that he was not respected by any of you." When he found the spell he searched
for, he pinned the group with more power to prevent them from screaming. "By having
him give a plan, the rest of you backed him up, and this gave him confidence. In
fact, it lead to his killing Set. Now that was my true plan."
As he read from the passage a slight breeze blew through the room, which grew
stronger every time he said:
"Kie coiji ba tith rod...canta buta fut dod...
kiey dobo kie sen ba luta...estental boie mopod...."
All was silent. The room was lit by an unnatural light as a large red orb
expanded until it covered the room.
There were no survivors of the battle on the beach...James and Emmanuelle, two
farmers from a small farming village near Lyratilan, had just arrived on the island
and after a brief interview became the newest members of Clan Phoenix.
What was Lord Phoenix's imagination, was now fact in the minds of everyone in the
room but the manager's.
"So now that you are members of our clan," Lord Phoenix sat down in his chair,
acting as though he had just had some conversation with the new recruits. The spell
had drained him of some of his strength, but he played it off with his acting
abilities, "you shall continue the tradition of Clan Phoenix by choosing your own
stage name."
The two Aruaki thought over this for a minute until James spoke. "Well, I don't
know why, but I can't stop thinking of the word, 'Prowler'."
"Yes," added his sister. "It's the strangest thing, really. I can't stop
thinking...thinking of a cat...claw marks. It's very peculiar."
"Indeed," said Lord Phoenix who was eyeing the siblings with dread. Had the
spell not been cast correctly? Were flashes of their old lives spinning before them
now? "I don't know what it is, but I suppose it was just impulse," he said, trying to
feed that impression into their minds in hopes that would finish what the spell began.
"Yes..." James said, but with some doubt as the memory left him permanently.
"Yes, I suppose that was all. Cat Claw and Prowler. Those shall be our names."
An hour later, as the group was celebrating the joining of two new members, the
soon to be third knocked on the door. Her name was Eliza Donsky when she entered.
Her new arena name was Rain, in tribute to her powers, when she left.
*** *** ***
Later that night, Lord Phoenix stepped out into the forest to take a leisurely
stroll. There he contemplated the events of the past two days. A fine end to a fine
plan.
Though it was true that his attempt to capture the treasure owned by the Prowlers
had gone amiss, it was a minor setback. For that was merely the icing.
Lord Phoenix had succeeded in bringing three new members of the 'chosen' among
the Clan. The Andorian League was now a friend of the team, and was even more so,
after Lord Phoenix would donate the reward back to the building of several schools and
towns buildings for the northern station. Hopefully they could help him with his
problems with the Federation to the south.
The coastal cities now owed him a favor for ridding them of a terrible nuisance.
The warriors of Clan Phoenix had come a step closer to working as a true team. And
they were now the proud owners of the Prowler's powerful warship. These things were
the cake!
Yet, something troubled him. Erick had suffered a flashback while in battle...he
trusted that this wouldn't happen again? He'd have to see in time....
But in the meantime, so what if a vast treasure hoarded for a decade was now lost
on the island? That can be addressed in another tale, by another team perhaps....
Epilogue:
Two weeks later:
The Aruaki stood alone on the beach four miles north of Valamantis. When he
calculated that it was about midnight, he lit a large bond fire and waited for a ship
to sail in from the west. Sure enough, one minute later a life boat made land fall
and a moderately short man got out off.
He stood at 5'11, his hair was as black as his skin was tan. At his side was a
scimitar. He had no peg leg, but he walked with a limp on his right side. Five other
pirates sat on boat as well and welcomed their friend.
"Glad you could make it to the meeting," said the pirate captain as he greeted
his friend with a smile. "Our two gangs should meet more often, but tell me now.
Where is my brother? I haven't seen him here amongst us and I was hopping to here his
stories."
"I'm sorry sir. Your twin brother, Kusslo, he, as well as the majority of the
Storm Sea Prowlers, are dead, sir." The Aruaki spoke slowly, afraid that saying the
wrong word would end his life. "It was a group of warriors. They ambushed us in an
attempt to capture Kussler. When he was killed, rather than leave him, many fought to
the last...the punishment for failing him."
"Who?" was all that Kingler asked.
"I, as well as nine others were the only ones to survive. They have all gone
their separate ways. It happened on Niytyole Island and after the attack I remained
here to find out who assaulted us. They were a gladiator team known as Clan Phoenix."
Captain Kussler's first mate was starting to loosen up. They said that if Kingler
didn't kill you ten seconds after he was given bad news, you just might live.
One second later, Kussler's first mate laid on the beach, blood pouring out of
his neck where his head had been cut off.
"Clan Phoenix shall pay for the death of my twin brother," Kasslo Kinger, leader
of the Tire Sea Prowlers, swore as he wiped his scimitar clean.

In the East:
"We'd better be getting back to Chimlevtal!" High Lord Bosk said. "I don't want
to miss the fight--"
The Sultan looked disturbed. "But surely great heroes such as I can see you must
be would not leave my son Selumid to search alone for the Eye of the East?"
"We came to Serevada for a specific reason," The Icelord said. "Our mission was
to discover the wizard who has been disturbing the Arcanum and persuade him to cease
doing so. This is no light matter and cannot be abandoned."
"It may be that the wizard you seek is the one who stole the Eye," Lord Tiriq
offered.
"Quite likely," the Sultan agreed hopefully.
"Perhaps," The Icelord admitted, "but we must pursue it from the direction of our
original quest. We were given the names of several practitioners of the magical arts
who might have the power to cause the observed disturbance, and we must check each of
them--"
"Slow work," Bosk said, "compared to hunting down someone who killed a dragon!"
"But necessary, my brother," The Icelord reminded him. "And I believe these
people are right, and that we will come to the dragon-killer sooner or later." He
turned to the Sultan's court magician, who had just burst upon them with the news that
Inzolas had sailed for Alastari. "I deduce that you are Master Jersheel," the
Polarian mage said. "Viyaad of Akheel-Aynoor I have met and assessed; he is not the
man we seek. Can you tell me something of Kerfallon of Cirina, Tarsik of Difena,
Mahdsahlat of Giduina, and Sandrovost of Fenarichia? These four have been named to me
as possibly the wizard we seek."
"And myself and Viyaad, I take it," the magician said. "I am indeed Jersheel. I
would judge that either Mahdsahlat or Sandrovost is the man you seek, as they are
engaged in a bitter feud and would do anything at all to achieve an edge over the
other. Kerfallon is also a likely source of trouble, though I have no definite
knowledge of wrong-doing on his part."
"And Tarsik?" The Icelord asked.
"A woman could not have done anything so devastating," the court magician said
impatiently. "How could you think it? Women have, perhaps, some slight knack for the
lighter edges of our Art, but the deeper matters are beyond them."
"What of Sheila Greywand?" Bosk asked curiously.
Seeing that the Serevadan was annoyed by being reminded that there was one
extremely powerful female mage in the world, The Icelord cut in smoothly to say, "The
situation has a masculine feel to it. I dare say you are right that Tarsik of Difena
is not involved." Mentally he made a note to go to Difena--if they had the time--and
make his own judgment of this Tarsik. His friend, the Satrap Harij, had considered
her powerful enough to be involved, and otherwise a good source of information.
Yet another person approached the little pavilion now, and the Serevadans, all
except the Sultan himself, bowed respectfully. This was a young man, scarcely more
than a boy, with delicate features and rich clothing. He was as pretty as a girl,
though The Icelord judged that once he gained the maturity that came from experience,
he would be handsome rather than pretty.
It was no great surprise when he was introduced by Sultan Akferad as, "My son,
Selumid, who will be Sultan after me. To him falls the task of leading great heroes
in the recovery of the Eye of the East.

Arvat:
With the rising of the sun, the fog melted away from the surface of the Storm
Sea. It revealed twenty ships, alarmingly close to the entrance to Arvat's harbor.
Though each ship had a mast, they weren't trusting to the wind but were coming in
under the propulsion of oars, thirty oars to a vessel manned by warriors in mail
shirts and helms.
Duke Arrnet stared in shock for a long moment. What use his handful of warriors
against six hundred Easterners? Then he drew himself up stiffly. There were many
criticisms that might be leveled against him, but no one had ever said that Arrnet of
Arvat was a coward. "Give the signal to raise the chains across the channel and fix
them in place," he said to Arenamistress Sugar. "Swordsmen to defend the anchor
points as long as they can but not to make martyrs of themselves. Archers here where
they can sweep the waterfront. And everyone remember their lines of retreat and the
rallying points!"
Niatoli:
"This is spooky," Crud said finally, then turned his back on the campsite.
"Strange, but it happened," Snow Wolf agreed. "If we knew the reason--"
"I sent them away." The voice seemed to emerge from the air. A moment later, a
man emerged from the scrubby trees. He was of medium height and slim build and looked
elven, more or less; somehow, he seemed wispy. He was dressed as plainly as any
shepherd on the hills, but there was authority in his manner. "You might call me, er,
Windweaver. I'm the lord of Niatoli," he explained apologetically.
"What lord?" Darkskye demanded. "I never heard that this island had a lord!"
"I do not, er, make a song and dance of it," Windweaver said mildly. "I have no
desire to, er, assess fines against brawlers or investigate the fairness of prices in
the market, or, er, anything of that nature. The, ah, burgesses attend to all that,
and very well, too. But these, er, people--" he waved one slim hand toward the
pirates' campsite, "they were intruders. They added nothing to life on Niatoli. They
were not wanted here. So I, er, sent them away."
"Can you do that to the invaders, if they come here?" Maple Sugar asked eagerly.
"Er, no, probably not. These fellows were, ah, few in number and had no, um,
magician with them." Windweaver looked embarrassed. "They did not, in any case, want
to, ah, stay here. I fear that the invaders will be, er, more difficult. There will
have to be..." he looked revolted, "...violence."
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit
back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. Rising in the
ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is CHEESY MOVIES III,
who swept up 16 places in the ranks. Take a look at DIVINE HERITAGE's act, as they
have a 3-2-1 week and gain 24 places in the team ranking. Rising in the ranks like a
loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is CLAN PHOENIX, who swept up 21
places in the ranks. Take a look at EASTERN HORDE's act, as they have a 3-2-0 week
and gain 14 places in the team ranking. Suffering under a 0-5-0 record and dropping
from 17th to 30th place were the THE RED SWORDS. Keep trying! What goes up, must
come down. Watch out NIYTYOLE ISLAND! SUPERIOR FORCES 1F may fall on you as it
crushes past the teams below it to fall on the 37th spot. It looks like the guys(?)
at BLOOM COUNTY had a good week as they went 3-1-0 to put them in 28th place. I
guess steroids help! Hey everybody, watch out for SUPERIOR FORCES, who flew up 27
points in the rankings after mashing SACCHARIN like a melon. Keep your eye on this
guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. NEOPHYTE was
overcame by SHANARIAN D'ANJELICA and drops 18 points. What does the Duelmaster and
Piltdown Man have in common? They are both the most challenged apes in human
history! Heyheyhey! Drawing on all of his experience as a 25-18-2 warrior, SNOOPY
went for the Duelmastership against BARREL CACTUS this week. It's a proud day for
the LUROCIANS II stable, as their warrior, SNOOPY, ascended the Duelmaster's throne.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
Did you hear that SAILS OF CHARON was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the
personal hygiene of SAILS OF CHARON's warriors, I'm not surprised! For those of you
who like math, try this one: SAILS OF CHARON + Weapons That go Boom = SNOTZI'S II +
Avoid City. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, MISHBAWTH went after
BRANDE, who was higher by 21 points. Well, when the dust settled, MISHBAWTH defeated
BRANDE.
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! Big deal, so CONAN got mashed in
the Dark Arena. With his face he was more at home with the trolls than with us.
(Waka waka). This week 12-9-0 SPARTACUS was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of
fighters with similar records who might take notice of this. Big deal, so XENA got
mashed in the Dark Arena. With hers face she was more at home with the trolls than
with us. (Waka waka). This week 9-6-2 HERCULES was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a
lot of fighters with similar records who might take notice of this. There's got to
be more reason for the sending of HERCULES to the Dark Arena than his record (9-6-2).
Anybody got any ideas THE GAMECOCKS? MR AVERAGE says to his dog--'Who should I fight
this week?'. Dog says 'BANDIT PRINCE'. So the guy dies. Moral? Put lying dogs to
sleep. Big deal, so VADEEM got mashed in the Dark Arena. With his face he was more
at home with the trolls than with us. (Waka waka). This week 3-19-0 WIDOWCREST EVE
was sent to the Dark Arena. I know a lot of fighters with similar records who might
take notice of this. RHUBARB defied all odds and slew BLACK ORC in the Dark Arena.
The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as BLACK ORC's meat is notoriously tough.
There's got to be more reason for the sending of TARZAN to the Dark Arena than his
record (6-3-0). Anybody got any ideas THE GAMECOCKS? Proving again that NIYTYOLE
ISLAND is not rated G, CRIMSON RAGE of the CRIMSON DEATH slew the warrior BLISS in a
rather bloody bout. Let's look for a bloodfeud. Carrion Bird Cinematic Humor: BILL
THE CAT II: THE REMATCH. Well, the arena is no place for slow learners (and
hopefully T.P.s) and STARTHISTLE DAWN demonstrated that very violently on
SMELLINARIA's body. In the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, FIONA MANDA was
mashed by CAT CLAW, who let FIONA MANDA know that killing members of CLAN PHOENIX is
a no-no. Knowing when to use the right tactics at the proper time is a very
important step on the road to Duelmaster.
Well, there's the manager of the NIYTYOLE ISLAND giving me the 'cut' sign (or is
that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the
world's best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. See ya
next time I'm on this circuit!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Ed. -- Are you implying I'm getting old? I would whack you with my cane if I could
catch you! -- Rillion
I imply nothing. It's all your imagination.... -- Ed.
Greek Guy -- Crappy warriors?!? I like to think of them as developmentally limited
warriors in need of retraining by way of the dark arena. I would insult your
warriors, but they are mopping up the arena floor with their opponents right now.
Fortunately the RUG's were quite kind to me this turn so I should have a full team
fighting here on turn 351 to help represent the old school Niytyole guilds. -- Rillion
Gythar Thickhead -- Well I think there are a large number of citizens here who are
getting sick of having their city name spelled incorrectly. You might find yourself
having to put down a riot sooner then you think. -- Rillion
All -- This is to announce the official entry of one of my warriors into the top Total
Parry competition during the upcoming Madness. He is warrior #5280. His name will be
either Opus or Achilleus depending on if the commission was nice enough to allow me to
correct his name after my whole non-name change fiasco. After some consideration he
will be making his debut on the sands next turn instead of competing in the Rookie
class of the upcoming Harvest Tournament. This way I will have a full team of five
warriors competing in the Madness from the start. -- Rillion, manager of the team
still known as Bloom County
Mayinga Strain -- I exist among the undead. I cannot be killed. This is good news
for me and of course bad news for you. I may not be able to bloodfeud, but my TV
challenge is still good.... *wink* -- Bitchin' Beast
J.J. -- Your warrior wasn't being set up. I just wanted to ensure a loss so I ran him
1-1-1 decise/response without armor or a weapon. My intent was not to have him killed
although it was no biggie...but just to give that horrible record a boost. 5-11?
Well take a look at the Beast's in about 15 turns. It'll be just as bad. -- sandman,
mgr. Divine Heritage
P.S. Best of luck to Mayinga if my challenge goes through. It won't be a pretty
sight....
All -- MotW's manager for turn 349 was Mordraith. This turn is Lord Phoenix. -- Crow

Apologies for the confusion on Team Names is understood & received with no malice! --
The Hammer
Dres Flanker -- Having a Bounty on My Head made it all the more inviting I am sure!
No Hard Feelings! -- Mahatsawd [awaiting the next challenge!]

All -- May the Warriors of Niatoli Island shine brightly with valor during the October
Mail-In Tourney! -- The Hammer
Barrel Cactus -- Congrats on the DMship. And to think, if I had won that match it
might have been me at the top of that list. Oh well, maybe someday. -- Dres Flanker,
TWT
Scarlet -- Well, that fight was boring. Maybe if I'd worn some armor I could have
lasted a bit longer. Such is life. -- Chucker, TWT
Are you a game bird? -- Ed.
Sugar Plum -- My GODS, you're big! I don't even know how I reached your head so many
times. Anyway, good fight and thanks for the learns and recognition. Let's see if I
can keep it up this time. -- Thra Lor, TWT
Tarzan -- All right! That's twice you've down-challenged me. What gives? Are you
too afraid to actually fight someone around your own skill level. You just need to
back off before I get really ticked off. -- Callisto, TWT
All -- TARZAN IS A COWARDLY WEENIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Callisto, TWT
Falling Rocks -- Wow, you really took it to me. My manager is getting tired of
messing with these Bloodfeuds, so look for some heavy hitters coming your way! -- Mob
Master, TWT
Ed. -- Your hard work is appreciated for helping to make DM 33 the Fiercest & Best
Free Blades Arena in Alastari! -- Maccabaeus The Hammer
P.S. HAL received NIPS issue #17 on Tuesday [October 12th]
And for once HAL didn't even lie, it's actually there. -- Ed.
Hunt-A-Thoners -- Your participation made this Arena even more enjoyable the past 10
Turns! Congratulations to all the Winners who will be announced in NIPS #18 on Turn
351! -- The Hammer
Hunt-A-Thon Winners -- I will be mailing New Team Rollup Prizes & contacting RSI
regarding the Teams being transferred as soon as I tabulate the results! -- The Hammer
Swords of Mars -- Your absence in The Madness will be felt as Phobos is the only Hunt-
A-Thon Manager who did not register for The Madness! -- The Hammer
All -- The Madness begins with a Special Occasion! -- The Hammer [Have a Blessed
Birthday Wayne!]
Widowcrest -- Thank you so much my good lady. Those skills are greatly appreciated.
-- Lord Lightspeed
Xondra Warbaby -- Wow! Excellent fight. It seems we fight with very similar
strategies. We have to do that again before I leave. -- Snoopy
Hellveeta -- Man, what a workout. I was getting a little tired there. Good fight
though. -- Red Baron
The Madness soon approaches. I hope you guys are ready. I know my team is. -- The
Greek Guy mgr. Lurocians II ( current top team two turns in a row <g>)
All -- I'm afraid to announce that the Justice Seekers will not be fighting until
further notice. The reason is due to the fact that I can't participate in the ads/
spotlight as much as I want to, nor on time. I still have to finish taking care of
business, the contest, and I should have that taken care of in another turn or so (see
below). 'Till later we speak, may honor and victory bless your blades. -- Tallmall
Aescroll and the Justice Seekers
POEM COMPETITION: Due to lack of response in the votes, I'm asking for them again.
Five votes per team send them to the Justice Seekers, or at OgreMak@hotmail.com. So
far, I've only had two teams send in votes, and between the three of us, there's a tie
between two teams. So please send in your votes NOW!!!! -- Tallmall Aescroll mgr.
Justice Seekers
P.S. I left at least two names off the list, so please check your newsletters. I
THINK that they were the Circle Man and Johal, but please check.
Debby T. -- You think I'm named after pipes? Now THAT is the funniest joke I've ever
heard (and I think I've heard 'em all). But you should know that there are plenty of
words that start with 'poly', such as polyadelphous, polyamide, polyandrous... --
Polythemus ;)
Maccabaeus -- Sorry to remind you and bust your bubble, but I'll not be sending your
message to Phido. What a fool you must be to think that I would process your request!
-- Lord Phoenix
...polyembryony, polyene, polyester, polyethylene, polygagla... -- Polythemus ;)
Sentinel -- Thanks for answering. -- Lord P.
Fiona Manda -- No apology? THEN A BLOODFEUD YOU SHALL HAVE, YOU IDIOTIC SIMPLETON! --
Lord Phoenix
...polygraph, polygyny, polyhedron, polyhydric, polyhymnia... -- Polythemus, he keeps
going and going and going...
Falling Rocks -- Flowers? What the frag do ya think I'm gonna do with those? I'm no
sissy, in case you haven't noticed. Sure, I'm a little 'tom boyish' but at least I'm
not like the rest of the women in this arena. Look at them! All parading around for
the men. (There are a bunch of chauvinistic pigs! I'm telling you!) -- Shi Con
Shi Con -- And what's wrong with being a chauvinistic pig? Heck, Darkskye can feel
free to strut around in whatever she wants ta. (But preferably in my room and not with
that bum Crud. C'mon lady, wanna see a real man? Just back over this way!) -- Dragon
Eye
Shi Con -- Hay, I know what ya can do with the flowers! Just give ;em to me so I can
give them to good ol' Hammer! -- Poly "I'm-so-damn-crazy-I-gave-myself-this-weird-
name" themus!
All -- With this turn I should end my 10 part storyline pertaining to the Prowlers.
Now I should let everyone know that I encourage writing amongst my fellow managers and
give full permission (to anyone who wishes) to use any creature, person, item, etc. I
create, in their own story. I only ask that you don't contradict anything I say (such
things would ruin any spotlight I intend on writing and would complicate any future
stories I would write). If it is at all possible I would ask that you contact me at
the e-mail address I intend on setting up (I've been meaning to get around to it for a
long time!) before you write a spotlight that could complicate a story of mine. Also,
I intend on making several additions to the "Encyclopedia Alastari" that will discuss
the Prowlers and other creations I might concoct (and I know that I WILL concoct
more!!!) -- Lord Phoenix
P.S. Hey, Ed, how often is the Encyclopedia updated, anyway? And how DO I submit
articles to it?
The Encyclopedia is updated...when we get around to it. Not a good answer,
perhaps, but an honest one. As to submitting articles, you can send stuff to me
at Sue@reality.com or to the Scribe a Livia@reality.com. It may or may not make
it in, depending on how it fits with what's already there and whether or not
Jupiter and Mars are in conjunction. -- Ed.
...polyvinyl, polyninylidne, polyninylresin, polywater... -- Polythemus
Polly wanna cracker? *hysterical laughter* -- Debby T.
Neophyte -- Yeah, that was a skill rape, alright. You could have at least taught me
one in return. -- W.T. Pooh
Red Baron -- Well, I like more even match ups better. But that didn't make it so. --
Dr. Mountain Dew
Blazing Eagle -- Great fight. Once I saw the halberd I thought, 'oh hell'! Though we
hurt each other badly, you fought honorably. That's rare these days.
Lord Fireflash -- Thanks for the kind words. High Emporer is one of those big, dumb
people that doesn't listen. I kinda compare him to 'Incredible Hunk'. "Me smash! Me
smash!" Sorry...anyhow, thank you.
Kokopelli -- Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! "The Rake" already explained your problem to me.
He's my ally, too. I won't fight anyone who's a friend of an ally of mine. I wish
not to join that party. If any of my warriors die, I thank them for teaching my
mistakes. -- Warlock Warriors
All -- For anyone concerned about my current state of mental health, have no fear. I
am still as sane as I have ever been. Legion wished to retire and work as a full-time
trainer for Merc Team Five. I have decided to open up two new teams and Legion will
stay here and supervise things. Darkskye will fight in the tournament and, barring
anything unusual, she will also retire from the arena and train. -- Apollo
Maximillious
Scribe, et al -- I would like to build a rather sizeable manor on the western part of
the isle. Please let me know if it (construction, improving the roads, etc.) would
conflict with the role-playing guidelines. There will be a spotlight to explain it
all. -- Apollo Maximillious
Go for it! -- Ed. and the Scribe
All -- If anyone is considering starting another team, DM-43 needs you! We have
shrunk from a comfortable 10-13 teams to our current 2 teams. Yes, two. Veastian
(DM-43) needs help badly. Come on over. -- Cult of the Dragon, team #339, Apollo
Maximillious, mgr.
Snoopy -- What a struggle! I deserved more recognition. -- Xondra Warbaby
Saccharin -- I was beauty in action, but you melted me down in the end. -- Tara
Calbrena
Del -- Did Con ever remember Persephone? -- Aelfie Tempest
Squeeze Cheeze -- I love the way you just stood there and took it! -- Alia
Niytyolelites -- Good luck in the tourney! Hope you all do better than we do! --

Scarlet -- Lleather, rered lleather. Skiskin ttight. I wiwill bbe thethere. --
Nervous Desert Fox
All -- Let's give a round of cheers for some new and returning managers. Niytyole
Island welcomes you all and the first round of drinks at the Dancing Wheel is on the
house for all (yes, Crud, free beer). -- Kokopelli
Mob Master -- You came, you called, you gave me skills and I still won. -- Falling
Rocks
Spartacus -- What, the Bossman asked for a truce and you ran and hid from Devil Snake?
You did me a favor and proved your word and the Bossman's was false. -- Snow Wolf
Superior Forces -- Nice shhot, mmy legg is sore. -- Desert Fox
Izmar Odemis -- Who are you, stepping over us like nothing? If you did not have that
halberd.... -- Annoyed Devil Snake
Mommy -- Apparently DADDY hasn't beat you in a while! I had a meal the other day and
it tasted just like your home cooking.... That's why Daddy used to beat you! Come
and try to spank me, sissy! -- Bard, Legions of Doom
My Crimson Brothers (the Hammer and Strategist), please identify this "Mommy" sissy
for me. Apparently he hides behind the title, "Mommy" but there are no "Mommies" in
this arena. Thanks. -- Cutberth, mgr. Legions of Doom DM-33, Crimson Legion DM-25,
Altered States DM-47, Commodore; Crimson Vengeance
Bande de Sang -- Okay, I paid! Via Cazar. -- Con
Justice Seekers -- Cast my vote for "Dreams of Mist" by Crimson Strategist and A
Milchamah Moment! -- Cutberth
Barrel Cactus -- Way to go, champion. Sweet record! -- Sweetie-Pie
Lot of great spots! Wow. Hammer, caught BOTH of yours. You are all such sweet,
sweet people. -- Sweetie-Pie
The Sentinel -- "Sails of Charon" is a much sweeter name. Now if we can get Soultaker
to change his to "In the Misty Moonlight." -- Sweety-Pie (ever so sweetly helpful)
Anthrax -- Salute! Your first, J.J.! How neat! Way to go, cutie! -- Sweetie-Pie
Blasphemer -- You popped some holes in me, and now I'm leaking all over the place.
Ouch! -- Maple Syrup
Mayinga Strain -- Perhaps a little chocolate will get rid of those blues for you?
Thank you for challenging me. I needed a win. -- Milk Chocolate
Thra Lor -- You are a sweet little thing, aren't you? I think you stuck in your thumb
and pulled out a plum! -- Sugar Plum
Hahn -- Oooooh, you tasted sooooo good, Babe. Very, very sweet! -- Sugar
Tara Calbrena -- What a sweet name! We gals just love havin' fun, don't we? You are
a cool jewel. -- Saccharin
Snow Wolf -- You were a perfect gentleman, but watch out for the, you know,
lighthousekeeper. Really, that is a totally tubular sort of prophesy type thing.
I am just albendranious to think of it. -- Debby T.
Lord Protector Grimloaf -- Who's going to make me? -- Bandit Prince
Chain -- If you didn't, then someone else was using your voice. -- Dolan

All -- Talon Volksie has finally entered the 90's on the verge of the millenium. I
have e-mail. You may email me at TalonVolksie@aol.com. -- Talon V.
Everyone now knows that DM-33 is one of the "Fiercest & Best Free Blades Arena"
around. The Hammer and others have done wonderful things for that arena. With 50 or
so teams, DM-33 is fun, challenging and a joy to play in. However, I am not here to
talk about DM-33. I want to talk to you about DM-43, Veastian.
DM-43 is not a large arena, we have only 8 teams here right now. It is small,
and not the greatest arena around...yet. We need YOU to help make this a great
arena. Since it's so small, this is your chance to get in on the ground floor and
become a cornerstone of this arena. Not many have this chance. DM-33 is great, but
it is crowded. Here in DM-43 you will not be one of the many, you will be one of the
best. For all of you Noblish Island managers, this is your chance to transfer your
team to an arena where you will have an immediate impact on the game. This is an
arena where you can continue to hone your skills and be a contender for the
Duelmastership. Veteran managers...do you want to make Duelmasters the best it can
be? Help newbies and make an arena of your own?
This is a wonderful chance for everyone. For the newer players to make a
serious impact on an arena and veteran players to be a "founder" of an arena.
Managers like Don John, Mutt Lange, The Rake and myself want you to help make DM-43
the best arena out there. We don't want just "anyone" to come here, we want managers
who want to play hard and have fun. If that is you, then come to DM-43, Veastian.
If anyone has any questions at all, please diplo me and I will reply as soon as
possible. Now is your chance, now is the time. DM-43. -- Apollo Maximillious, mgr.
Cult of the Dragon (339), DM-43
All -- By Seefe's name, am I tired of looking at such team names as Inyo Eye and
Eggnog Warriors. Please, in the name of all that is decent on the face of Ghea, give
your teams and fighters APPROPRIATE names!! I know it can be challenging and
demanding to make up TRULY GOOD names like Boneshredders and Aerie Fire, but please,
don't call your guys something that causes me to dirge in disgust!! It really hurts
your (and my) gaming experience when my warriors have to stand against someone named
"Underwear Gnomes". After all, I can come up with ten names like Bust-a-Plumber and
Chococroc in a single minute, but why don't I do it? -- Shadowfire, mgr. of
Dragonslayers (636) in Solven (DM 22)
