Tractor Trailers
![]()
I made these trucks for Christmas of 98 for my boys, my father and a close friend.
I personalized each one to suit their taste. I started with a basic pattern for the tractor
and the car carrier trailer. I modified the tractor pattern and then created two additional
trailer patterns. One was for a single trailer, and the other for a set of combo trailers.
Car Carrier
I used a plan to create the car carrier trailer. My youngest son is really into matchbox
type cars, and the carrier is designed to hold them. It was a lot of work, but the perfect
gift. This truck inspired me to create the other personalized gifts.
Single Trailers
I designed the single trailers to have a removable top and a rear door to slide up and
down in a slot. That made the wooden toy double as a storage compartment. After I
assembled and varnished them, I placed decals on the sides to match the interests of
the recipient.
Combo Trailer
The combo trailers stemmed from trying to think of something useful for my dad. I
thought a business card holder would look nice on his desk. I made one of the trailers
a business card holder. The top and side of the trailer are removable in one piece to
reveal the cards. I used a couple dowels to hold the cards in place. I made the second
trailer similar to the single trailers I built and filled it with candy before I wrapped it up.
