Test of CD-Web Idea

The purpose of this demo is to illustrate the speed-advantage of calling to files on local storage media and incorporating them as multimedia elements within a pre-existing Web page.

First, please FTP the following sample GIF image to whatever subdirectory of your computer you will use for this test: example.gif.

Please be sure and save this file as "example.gif" (it is not really a .zip file).

Next, please enter the local path information that is unique to your computer and whatever subdirectory you will be using for this test.

For example:
PC-users: c|/anydir/
Mac-users: my_hard_drive/miscellaneous/

Please enter your local path information here:

Next, please make sure that your browser window is at least wide enough to show the following image in its entirety.

Lastly, press the OK radio button below and you will be linked to a page allowing you to contrast the speed of a FILE-protocol URL to the image you FTP-ed with the more time-consuming download of the same image from my personal user subdirectory on the host.

Since the CGI script may not be activated yet, here is a dummy response page.
